Dharamvira Gandhi and Harinder Khalsa suspended from the Aam Aadmi Party

The Political Affairs Committee (PAC) of the Aam Aadmi Party today suspended Dharamavira Gandhi and Harinder Singh Khalsa from the primary membership of the party and referred disciplinary proceedings against them to party’s National Disciplinary Action Committee.

In its meeting on 29 August, 2015, the PAC took cognizance of anti-party activities indulged in by Dharamavira Gandhi and Harinder Singh Khalsa in Punjab. In a unanimous decision, the PAC suspended Khalsa and Gandhi from the party and referred their cases to the National Disciplinary Action Committee. Now the three-member National Disciplinary Action Committee, with Pankaj Gupta, Dilip Pandey and Deepak Bajpai as its members, will look into the complaints of anti-party activities and indiscipline against Dharamvira Gandhi and Harinder Singh Khalsa.

Resolution passed by the PAC
The PAC expresses its concern over anti-party activities indulged in by Mr. Dharamvira Gandhi and Mr. Harinder Singh Khalsa. Mr. Gandhi and Mr. Khalsa have been involved in the activities of certain outfits, opposed to aims and objectives of the party. The only aim of these outfits is to damage the Aam Aadmi Party and anti-corruption movement in the country.

There are several instances that show that Mr. Gandhi and Mr. Khalsa are trying to establish a parallel organization within the party with the sole objective of damaging the party in Punjab.  Mr. Gandhi and Mr. Khalsa have criticized the party leadership and the decisions taken by the party on several occasions in the media. Not only Mr. Gandhi and Mr. Khalsa used the press to express their disagreement with the party on various issues, they also openly disobeyed the party on several occasions and refused to follow party discipline.

The corrupt BJP-SAD regime in Punjab has made the state a hub of narcotics trade. Well-oiled state run corruption machinery has completely paralyzed the government apparatus. Fed up with two terms of misrule by the BJP-SAD combine, people of Punjab have decided to go with Aam Aadmi Party to bring Delhi model of corruption free governance to the state. Mr. Gandhi and Mr. Khalsa have joined hands with the corrupt BJP-SAD leaders in Punjab and have betrayed the faith of the common man.
With a clear intent of creating confusion among party volunteers and damaging the party, Mr. Gandhi and Mr. Khalsa today organized a conference, parallel to that of the Aam Aadmi Party, at Baba Bakala today on the occasion of Rakhar Puniya. They used pictures of National Convenor Arvind Kejriwal and party MPs Bhagwant Mann and Sadhu Singh to create confusion and help Shiromani Akali Dal-BJP. They used party symbol and pictures of party leaders in the publicity material of their conference without due permission from the party.

Taking cognizance of their anti-party activities and indiscipline, the PAC has decided to refer their case to the National Disciplinary Action Committee for suitable action against them. The PAC also unanimously resolves to suspend Mr. Dharamvira Ghandhi and Mr. Harinder Singh Khala from the primary membership of the party.

Press Release
New Delhi, August 28, 2015:  The two-day global ‘Call to Action Summit 2015’ concluded today with Health Ministers and heads of country delegations from 22 countries adopting the DELHI DECLARATION on ‘ending preventable maternal and child deaths’. The declaration was developed as an outcome of the high-level ministerial conclave held yesterday during the summit.
The Call to Action Summit 2015 held on 27-28 August 2015 in New Delhi was co-hosted by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India and the Health Ministry of Ethiopia, in partnership with Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, the Tata Trusts, UNICEF, USAID and WHO.
The Hon’ble Union Minister for Health and Family Welfare, Shri J P Nadda, in his address as the Chair for the valedictory session of the summit urged all leaders from participating countries to “commit to a culture of evidence-based decision-making, strengthen accountability of national health systems and align resources to those with the greatest need.” During the address, he also assured that, “India will lead the efforts to demonstrate global progress in maternal and child health by working closely with global partners to make sure that the post 2015 development agenda will advance the cause of ending preventable child and maternal deaths.”
Heads of co-host organisations and partners including Mr. Richard Verma, US Ambassador to India; Ms. Geeta Rao Gupta,  Deputy Executive Director, UNICEF; Mr. Girindre Beeharry, Country Director, Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation; Mr. R K Krishna Kumar, Trustee, Tata Trusts and Dr. Poonam Khetrapal Singh, Regional Director, WHO (SEARO) joined the ministerial delegations during the adoption of the DELHI DECLARATION and pledged their commitment and support to ending preventable deaths of children and mothers.
The Summit was a platform for the Health Ministers of 24 nations, Health Ministers from states of India, academic experts, health practitioners and global leaders from diverse sectors - corporate, civil society and media to deliberate on the importance of Systems, Partnerships, Innovations, Convergence, and Evidence in ending all preventable maternal and child deaths.
The Additional Secretary and Mission Director (National Health Mission), Shri C K Mishra, outlined the commitments made by the countries in the Delhi Declaration. During the session that he chaired on “Global Strategy for Women’s, Children’s and Adolescent Health’ he said, “Maternal and child health needs more resources and it is important to ensure accountability and maximisation of its impact.” The session examined ways to accelerate progress beyond 2015 on maternal and child health goals. The panel recommended that adolescent health, particularly of the girl child, should be given centre-stage in order to improve the health of mothers and the children they bear.

The session on ‘Moving towards Scale’ put the spotlight on the child survival interventions that have worked well in low and middle-income countries. India shared its experience in scaling up the immunization programme and policy makers from other countries offered solutions on how affordable primary health care services in urban areas could be expanded.  Game changing technologies for healthcare delivery were presented by experts and innovators, who also discussed the eco-systems required to foster innovations for child and maternal care: use of mobile phones, emergency transport, health education, and referral systems, to name a few.

H.E. Dr. Aminata Keita, the First Lady of the Republic of Mali chaired the session named, ‘Survive, Thrive, and Transform’, where the importance of the continuum of care in the prevention of malnutrition, diarrhea and newborn deaths was discussed. The session also touched on the inter connections between health, safe water, sanitation, gender empowerment and rural development. The session on Health Financing featured a discussion on financial models of health service delivery, fund management and utilization, public sector purchase of health services from or outsourcing to the private sector and ensuring accountability and governance in fund management.

In order to maintain the momentum in ending preventable child and maternal deaths in any country, government efforts are not enough. The session on corporate partnerships brought together development partners and the corporate sector to discuss the contributions that could be made by pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies and philanthropists and foundations to support this agenda.  In the final session on Accountability for Results, Shri Bhanu Pratap Sharma, Secretary, Health and Family Welfaresaid that, “Evidence based decision making and community level accountability are the cornerstones of a functional and impactful public health service delivery system.” He also highlighted the existing accountability structures within the National Health Mission.

The Hon’ble Prime Minister of India, Shri Narendra Modi inaugurated the Summit yesterday and announced another major milestone achieved by India for children and mothers by eliminating maternal and neonatal tetanus. In his inaugural address, the Hon’ble PM said, “I firmly believe that this summit will provide a highly effective platform to address common challenges that will help countries achieve the desired goals for maternal and child health.” The Prime Minister released a coffee table book‘Born to Be’ depicting key milestones in 25 years of India’s progress in maternal and child health’. He also released the USAID report ‘Acting on the Call: Ending Preventable Child And Maternal Deaths’ that outlines the plan to save 15 million children and 600,000 women by 2020.

Dr. Kesetebirhan Admasu, Minister of Health, Ethiopia, said, “We will hold ourselves accountable to the commitments of DELHI DECLARATION through regular monitoring of progress through this joint platform, and promote cross-learning, knowledge sharing and collaboration among the 22 nations to end preventable deaths of mothers, newborns and children.”

FC Pune City assemble in Turkey for pre-season

Pune, August 27, 2015: As a part of their pre-season training and conditioning, the Rajesh Wadhawan Group and Hrithik Roshan co-owned Indian Super League team FC Pune City have commenced their preparations at state-of-the-art facilities of Gloria Sports Arena in Antalya, Turkey under the watchful eyes of head coach David Platt.

Gloria Sports Arena is a modern sports complex with indoor, outdoor and aquatic sports facilities for over 50 different sports disciplines. Built on 105,000 sq. mt. in Belek-Antalya-Turkey, it also houses a 6800 sq. mt. indoor sports complex including a multipurpose sports hall with telescopic tribunes. The 35,000 sq. mt. outdoor facilities include a stadium for 1600 spectators and various sports fields.

“To be the best, you have to train at the best. Gloria Sports Arena possibly has the best sports training facilities in the world. From the feedback that I am getting, the head coach, support staff and players are all impressed with their ongoing stint in Turkey. We couldn’t think of a better way to get ready for the 2015 season,” explained club’s CEO Mr. Gaurav Modwel.

This is the phase two of FC Pune City’s pre season training plans. In the first phase, a preseason conditioning was conducted at the team’s home ground at Shiv Chhatrapati Sports Complex Stadium in Pune just for the Indian players. In Antalya, the entire squad, including the foreign signings, has assembled with Platt at the helm of the affairs.

Platt too had high praise for the facilities and had encouraging words for the Indian players. “The facilities here are top notch and as good as anywhere in the world. It’s nice for me to get my boots on again and enjoy my stint with the assembled squad. I am delighted with the attitude of players and their appetite to work hard. I had heard so much about the so called limitations of domestic players but none of that was in evidence here,” said Platt.

Team’s marquee player Adrian Mutu too was pleasantly surprised with the pre season camp in Turkey. “Gloria Sports Arena matches some of the top preseason facilities that I have come across. The team’s gelling well and the coach and the support staff is ensuring that the team comes back to Pune with top notch fitness levels,” said Mutu.

The squad will train in Antalya until September 10, 2015. Post that, the Platt-managed team will be back in Pune for the final phase of training before the season starts for the club against state rivals Mumbai FC at Shiv Chhatrapati Sports Complex Stadium in Pune on October 5, 2015.

Call to Action Summit 2015

Following are UN Secretary-General’s Envoy on Youth Mr. Ahmad Alhendawi’sstatement on WOMEN, CHILDREN & ADOLESCENT HEALTH, at the CALL TO ACTIONSUMMIT at Taj Palace, New Delhi on 27 August 2015:

It gives me a great pleasure to be here today and allow me at the outset to thank the Government of India for hosting this timely and much needed Call to Action.
In September 2010, UN Secretary-General launched the Global Strategy for Women’s and Children’s Health. Today we can say that the Global Strategy has contributed to significant progress worldwide for women’s and children’s survival and health.
The Every Woman Every Child movement that grew out of the Global Strategy mobilized actors from all sectors to work towards the shared goals. The United Nations is proud to be supporting this movement.
And today 5 years later, our world has been changing at an unprecedented pace. Technological advancements, shifting perceptions and volatile environment require new, enhanced and effective response mechanisms.
Therefore updating the Global Strategy for Women’s, Children’s and the new Adolescents’ Health is building on new evidence. It includes the need to focus on critical population groups such as newborns, adolescents and those living in fragile and conflict settings.
I welcome the new focus on adolescents in the strategy.
As you know, adolescents face complex challenges such as lack of universal access to health care, information, goods and services, including sexual and reproductive health.
Too few have access to information and counseling to integrated, youth-friendly services. Access to sexual and reproductive health information and services is especially limited and those who are not married may face discrimination in access.
Globally, millions of adolescents die or become sick from preventable causes. According to World Health Organization, 1.2 million adolescents lost their lives in 2012.
The situation is even worse when it comes to adolescent girls. Every 10 minutes, somewhere in the world, an adolescent girl dies as a result of violence. 8 out of 10 adolescent girls who died as a result of violence were between the ages of 15-19.
Further, some 700 million adolescent girls were married as children. Many of these marriages are forced. Early marriage translates into adolescent pregnancy and into risk of dying in childbirth and to drop out of school and many more opportunities lost for thriving and transforming their lives.
5 million young people worldwide are estimated to be living with HIV today. And HIV infection is increasing among adolescents, the only group of the population with such increases. It is now estimated to be the second cause of death among adolescents globally: leading among are African adolescents.
For all these pressing reasons and others, and building on the success of the global movement generated from the Every Women, Every Child, it is a moral responsibility and a strategic action to include adolescents as a new focus of the this global movement.
The UN’s vision is to end all preventable child and adolescent deaths by 2030 and ensure their well-being.

In many settings, adolescent girls and boys face numerous policy, social and legal barriers. Among adolescents living with disabilities or in humanitarian contexts, the barriers are even greater.
The Global Strategy makes recommendations on how countries can overcome such barriers.
We need critical investments in our adolescents to achieve the future we want and the future they deserve.
In conclusion, allow me to make three calls to action to the representatives of governments who are present here:
1)     Let’s commit to support adolescent health within the Global Strategy, since this area is new, it will require additional attention and more support,
2)      In committing on adolescent health and when designing adolescent focused interventions, let’s always consult, engage and partner with young people. Partnering with adolescents and youth is the key for the successful expansion of Every Women, Every Child.
3)      And last but not least, let us scale up the investments in integrated health and development programmes for adolescents through cross-sectoral partnerships.
Our call to action, ladies and gentleman, should not be a missed call. Let’s act today in making unleashing the power of this massive generation of children, adolescents and youth.
I thank you very much.
