CWG contract irregularities: CBI conducts raids at 16 places
The CBI on Tuesday conducted raids at 16 places in Delhi, Ghaziabad and Jaipur in connection with the alleged irregularities in awarding contract for renovation of Dr Shyama Prasad Mukherjee Swimming Pool Complex for 2010 Commonwealth Games. Several incriminating documents and records were recovered during the searches. CBI spokesperson Dharini Mishra told reporters that the investigating agency had also registered a case against eight CPWD officials, two Delhi-based private firms and other unknown officials of CPWD for criminal conspiracy and criminal misconduct under the Prevention of Corruption Act.
CBI has alleged that the accused by abusing their position as public servants, in conspiracy with the private parties, considered inadmissible factors to artificially jack up the reasonable price so as to justify the award of work to the firms.
