Myanmar to aim to triple GDP per capita


Myanmar's President Thein Sein has pledged to push forward with reforms to boost the country's economic output.Thein Sein said in a televised policy speech on Tuesday that from this year the government will work on a second wave of reforms which will focus especially on the development of the country and public welfare.

Thein Sein  said that the government aims to triple the country's gross domestic product per capita by fiscal 2015. Myanmar's GDP per capita is now about 700 dollars  the lowest among countries in Southeast Asia.

Thein Sein added that foreign investment and technical expertise are needed to achieve this goal.
Further he also stressed that he will continue to work on national reconciliation to achieve peace and stability in the country.
