Breivik detonated a bomb in central Oslo and went on a shooting rampage on a nearby island, at a youth camp of the ruling political party. Breivik, who cited his opposition to the government immigration policy, was arrested and charged with the terror attacks.
On Sunday some 1,000 people, including relatives of victims, attended a memorial ceremony on the island where many youths were gunned down.Norwegian Prime Minister Jens Stoltenberg urged people to respond rationally to malicious actions, and to prove that democracy is stronger than terrorism.The ceremony was followed by a memorial concert in front of Oslo City Hall. More than 50,000 citizens with roses in their hands prayed for the victims.Norway has willingly accepted Asian and African immigrants to fill labor shortages stemming from the country's declining birthrate and aging population.This policy has caused some discrimination and prejudice against Muslim immigrants in the country.
