US court turns down Samsung

A US federal district court in California has turned down Samsung Electronics' request that the temporary ban on sales of its tablet computers be lifted. The court said the issue should be referred to a federal appellate court.

The decision came on Tuesday in the legal battle between US technology giant Apple and South Korea's Samsung. The court issued the temporary ban on sales of Samsung's "Galaxy Tab 10.1" in June. It was a provisional disposition in favor of Apple, which claims Samsung violated its patents.

Last month, a jury of the same court decided that Samsung did not infringe Apple's patents on tablet computers. However, it concluded the South Korean firm did violate Apple's smart phone patents.
Last week, the US International Trade Commission ruled in favor of Apple.
