YANGON:
A deep 5.9-magnitude quake rattled the India-Myanmar border region
early Wednesday, the US Geological Survey (USGS) said.The
quake struck at a depth of 75 kilometres (47 miles), with its epicentre
about 90 kilometres (60 miles) from Kohima, the capital of Nagaland in
India's northeast.
There were no immediate reports of any damage or casualties.
Seven northeastern states, joined to the rest of the country by a
narrow sliver of land, are located in an area of frequent seismic
activity. The border region is remote and sparsely populated on the
Myanmar side.
