NewsLynx: The Impact Platform On Thursday, June 4, Tow Fellows Michael Keller and Brian Abelson presented their Tow-Knight report, NewsLynx: A Tool for Newsroom Impact Measurement to a packed house at the Brown Institute for Media Innovation. Keller and Abelson were joined by panelists Sarah Nir, Lindsay Green-Barber, and Blair Hickman. The group's discussion touched on how different organizations and individuals define impact, and the myriad ways in which impact may be defined related to the goal of a journalistic product and it's audience. As non-profit newsrooms apply for grants and appeal to donors for funding, they often need to explain in formal reports "how well" their stories performed - not just in terms of impressive traffic, but in qualitative evaluations of the "impact" their reporting had on the world: Did it change a law? Did it move the needle in the conversation? Did it meet the expectations — however defined — the organization had for it?
