Myanmar president Thein Sein grants amnesty

Myanmar President Thein Sein is being  praise for introducing dramatic changes to the country
President Thein Sein granted a pardon to those convicted of or charged with a variety of political offenses, such as unlawful association, high treason, contempt of government and violations of the peaceful assembly law.
This amnesty follows a promise by Thein Sein in July that all political prisoners will be freed by the end of the year.Decree halted all ongoing trials and investigations connected with those charges.
Those freed had their names on list from the Political Prisoners Scrutinizing Committee, said Bo Kyi, a member of the committee. He added that "more people are expected to be freed in the next batch in the first week of January."
"We welcome the presidential pardon order. However, several steps need to be taken to maintain a level of zero political prisoners. There must be rule of law and more political freedom to maintain that level," Bo Kyi said.

Manish Tewari denies media speculations about resignation of PM31122013

Hurriedly called press conference at media centre the Information and Broadcasting Minister Manish Tewari on Tuesday said there is no truth on the media speculations about the resignation of Prime Minister Manmohan Singh.
Tewari said if there is no news that should not mean the media should cook up one. He also said there is also no hurry for the congress party to decide on it’s Prime minister candidate. He said if a decision is taken it will be known to the media. Tewari said after releasing the 2014 official calendar in New Delhi. He was responding to media queries on speculative news reports on Dr. Singh’s resignation and also Congress party’s announcement of it’s Prime Minister candidate ahead of the Lok Sabha election.
Prime Minister Manmohan Singh will address a press conference on Friday, his second and possibly the last during UPA-II.
