Congress demands dismissal of Mayawati govt

Congress has demanded the dismissal of Mayawati government for deteriorating law and order situation and spurt in violence against women in Uttar Pradesh. State Unit of the party has handed over a memorandum to Governor B.L. Joshi in Lucknow on Monday. The Congress has also demanded a CBI inquiry into a number of incidents took place recently in the state including murder of a teenage girl by a group of policemen in Lakhimpur Kheri district, killing of two CMOs and mysterious death of a Deputy CMO in Lucknow jail and death of farmers in police firing at Bhatta Parsul villages in Gautam Buddha Nagar district. In its memorandum, the party has alleged that several BSP MPs and MLAs are allegedly involved in different criminal activities and some of them are in jail. AIR correspondent reports that Congress leaders, who were arrested while taking out a Nyaya March in Lucknow on Monday, have been released.
Earlier, state government had clamped prohibitory orders and refused the Congress permission to take out the march in Lucknow.
