Sri Lanka is all set to introduce "Electronic Travel Authorization - ETA" or online prior approval of visa to the foreign nationals visiting the island nation. The present 'on arrival visa at the port of entry will soon be a thing of the past in a few month’s time, the tourists, business people and transit passengers will have to apply for travel authorization before travelling to Sri Lanka, for which a non refundable processing fees of at least 50 USD will be charged.

Briefing the media on Wednesday in Colombo, Immigration and Emigration Controller Chulananda Perera said that the “ETA is not a visa but prior approval to travel to Sri Lanka”. He added that the visa will be stamped on the passport on arrival at Colombo; but the passenger will have to log in ahead, and have the authorization slip or the number.
