Myanmar's opposition leader Aung San Suu Kyi has pledged political flexibility to help democratize her country.The pro-democracy leader's party won overwhelmingly in by-elections last
month, but boycotted parliament rather than take an oath to uphold the
country's constitution. The document stipulates the military's
superiority.On Monday, Aung San Suu Kyi said she and her party will take their seats
in parliament on Wednesday out of respect for the people's desires.
On Tuesday, she met visiting UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon at her home in Yangon.
As Ban praised her decision, she said she has always attached importance
to flexibility in the political process, to avoid violence.Ban stressed that the international community firmly backs Myanmar on its path to democracy.
