Aung San anthology in high demand

Aung San, the revolutionary hero of Burma and the father of Aung San Suu Kyi, never fails to draw the admiration of Burmese.
An anthology of political articles recounting the successes and tragic end of his life is still in high demand two weeks after it was published, a Rangoon book dealer told Mizzima. Many young people are buying the book, seeing it as a poignant history of their country. Aung San was assassinated by political rivals in 1947.Published by the Monitor Journal, with a price of US $1, the cover features his photograph and writer Zaw Gyi’s poem about Aung San.

The book features 38 articles including a brief autobiography and photos of his family and historical events. The book, of good quality, was published in April.

The articles originally appeared in the Monitor Journal edited by Myat Khine. The writers who lived in the era of Aung San include Pukalay, Dagon Taryar and Thakhin Tin Oo. Other writers include Ko Pyinnyar (Amarapura), Takkatho Sein Tin, Dr. Kyaw Zaw Win and Lewe Thakhin Kyi Shein. Lewe Thakhin Kyi Shein, now deceased, wrote about a photograph of Aung San and Ne Win in Lewe during World War II.

A book featuring articles by Aung San himself, called ‘Writer Aung San’, was recently published by Maung Sein Ni of Padauk Pwint Thit Magazine has also proven popular.
