Defence Ministry has ordered a probe into alleged irregularities in the resettlement of ex-servicemen. The Defence Minister, A. K. Antony has referred the cases to the Serious Fraud Investigation Office, SFIO under Ministry of Corporate Affairs for further investigations. Defence Spokesperson Sitansu Kar told media in New Delhi on Sunday that the irregularities were detected in an in house enquiry.
To ensure transparency in functioning of Director General Resettlement (DGR) Office, the Defence Ministry has also initiated a series of measures after the inquiry found substance in allegations regarding subletting of security agencies and obtaining multiple benefits by few ex-servicemen officers.
DGR is under the Department of Ex-Servicemen Welfare, which is responsible for training and rehabilitation of retired defence personnel and ex-servicemen through various self employment schemes. One of these schemes relate to providing security services to central public sector undertakings through security agencies run by ex-servicemen.
