Afghanistan one million dollars for poppy-free provinces

Afghanistan the Counter Narcotics Ministry has allocated one million dollars for each of the 17 provinces that were declared poppy-free this year. According to an official announcement the development assistance will go to the provinces where poppy cultivation has been reduced to zero.

Abdul Qayyum Samir, a spokesman of the ministry of Counter Narcotics told a news conference in Kabul that the initiative is aimed to help poppy-free provinces and encourage other provinces to eradicate the illegal crop. So far 17 provinces including Helmand, Badghis and Zabul have made remarcable progress in the eradication of poppy crop.
