India welcomes Chinese decision not to divert Brahamputra

 

New Delhi today welcomed Beijing for not diverting river Brahmaputra. China was planning to construct a dam along the banks of the river. External Affairs Minister S. M. Krishna told reporters in New Delhi that the issue was taken up with China at the bilateral level and said things are moving in a positive direction.

The Vice Minister of Water Resources for China Jiao Yong told a press at Beijing that the Chinese government has no plans to divert the river. He said that the Chinese government has considered the issue and its possible impact on the environment besides State to State relations.
